AboutMISSION STATEMENT
Dutch photography is held in high regard internationally, partly thanks to the efforts of PANL, the Photographers Association of the Netherlands. PANL was founded 19 years ago to offer a platform for applied photography. Since then, advertising agencies, publishers and other clients - both in the Netherlands and abroad - are increasingly opting to use Dutch photographers.
An important activity of PANL is organising the annual PANL Sony Photography Awards. All submissions are exhibited and an international jury chooses the best work. These photographs are then compiled and published in a book each year that is sent to clients around the world. The PANL Photography Annual of the Netherlands therefore represents a powerful promotional tool for Dutch photography.
In addition, the association stimulates the creativity and professionalism of photography in countless ways. These include organising gatherings, workshops and master classes for members as well as supporting the interests of photographers. For example, all the photographers that are affiliated with PANL are automatically members of Burafo (an association that protects and maintains authors' rights) and the Photographers federation of the Netherlands.
All this is about serving a larger mission: ensuring that Dutch photographers are well and truly on the map.
